Facial Problems

I am 20 years old my face is still prone to pimples. I would like to consult a dermatologist but I cannot afford to because I am still a student. I was told by a friend to use a popular brand of antibacterial soap and moisturizer. Now, I wash my face with regular soap and apply moisturizer after. Am I doing right?

Can you tell me the proper way to use moisturizer? Will it help clear pimples? What can I use to remove scarring from pimples?

Acne is greatest during the pubertal years-middle to late teens. However, it may begin in the 20’s or 30’s in some and persist for many years. There are government institutions offering free medical checkups for dermatologic conditions and I recommend that you see a specialist. If acne is not treated well, you may have more scars.

Antibiotics are prescribed for inflammatory types of acne to decrease the number of bacteria in the follicle, such as topical benzoyl peroxide, erythromycin and clindamycin for mild cases; and oral tetracycline and minocycline for severe cases. Antibacterial soaps are helpful but sometimes inadequate.

Moisturizers are not highly recommended for oily, acne-prone skin. If your skin is dry, you may need a moisturizing cream. Use a noncomedogenic moisturizer for your type of skin.

Acne scar treatment should be left to dermatologists. Ask your dermatologist about bleaching preparations, chemical peel, microdermabrasion (diamond peel), dermabrasion and laser resurfing.
